Who's Here for Dr. Who?

So a friend of mine said, "Watch Dr. Who!" and I stared, baffled, at the screen thinking what is this? Then I ended up watching the whole series. I caught up just yesterday. I'd wanted to catch up before the 50th anniversary and I made it with a month to spare (I'm not quite sure this is something to be very proud of)! I've not watched any of the older series yet, I plan to someday; I started with the ninth doctor but let me just say, my fellow Whovians, that I absolutely loved every minute of what I've watched so far! (kind of spoilers ahead for people who know absolutely nothing about the show)

How Many Eccleston Fans out there!!!

How Many Tennant Fans out there!!!

How Many Smith Fans out there!!!

I'd just like to say that I think Matt Smith is my favorite regeneration over all.  It's hard to say that though because I love them all as The Doctor! I honestly don't know why Eccleston isn't as popular as the other two because I though he was absolutely FANTASTIC! He, for me, is pretty well tied with Tennant.  But, regenerations aside, this show is amazing and beautiful and emotional! I'm awaiting the 50th Anniversary with much anticipation!

Time to Talk Comic Con!

Really late post but YAY! The first ever Salt Lake Comic Con 2013 was a blast! I was able to geek out to my hearts content. On the very first day I came as a volunteer. They gave me a neon green "crew" shirt and a badge and sent me to the Stages of the Salt Palace.  Since I was a volunteer whenever a panel with a big celeb started I was able to sit in the front row with the press.  It was pretty awesome.  I know I'm not going to be able to get to all the comic con stuff I want so I'll be making multiple posts of it's awesomeness.

There were some awesome cosplayers who came to the con.  Cosplay Highlights. Let me just say there were some brilliant costumes and I was very impressed by how many people cosplayed, and cosplayed so wonderfully, for the first year of SLCC. There was a plethora of Dr. Who cosplays.  Maybe I just noticed this because I was helping with the Tardis. The Daily Herald asked to take a picture of my LOTR elf costume. It was pretty cool!

(Working with the Tardis was awesome though!  The line never seemed to end! My friends were exhausted from working the line all day and I felt kind of bad for them because they couldn't roam the con as freely.)

I don't know how many people were there to witness the Deadpool riot outside the Ballroom but it was EPIC.  They crowd-surfed Superman!

A Story About My Cars

So, a sad thing happened a few days ago.  My family sold the old car I used to drive.  Maybe this type of thing isn't too sad for other people but this car has been around since I was little... really little.  When I was a kid I'd always ask my parents if I could have the car when I grew up and they would always say something like "We'll probably sell it before you even learn how to drive". Well, let me tell you, they did not sell it for another 17 years!  I inherited this car, which was not really a car at all, it was a 1993 tan Toyota Land Cruiser, when I learned to drive and I lovingly named it Grandpa.  I had tried out different names on the car before but none of them seemed right.  Before I had this car I'd inherited my grandmothers old Subaru Outback. I'd named it "The Green Machine".  For some reason there was always a spider in it... anyway. There were a lot of stories about that car just shutting down in the middle of the road.  That car died a horrible death... (not really it just died).  I wasn't as sad when this one left. Grandpa was old and sturdy, kind of like a big, tan tank. It was a gas guzzler too! Ten miles per gallon nearly drained my bank! Grandpa was awesome though, he was a noisy, off-road, tough piece of metal and I loved him to bits!
This isn't an actual picture of my car.  I just tried to find one that looked very similar.
I remember one day at school, it was winter and there was snow and ice everywhere, I came out of my class to head home and there was a big dent in the trunk and bumper.  Luckily the responsible teenager who'd hit my car had left a note for me to contact him by.  I was happy that I'd be able to get Grandpa relatively fixed up but I was still upset about the damage.  There was a permanent scratch across the bumper that didn't look too bad.  I was just happy that Grandpa was still up and running and still looked good.

When my sister started driving she backed into a ladies car.  She had to pay around $2,000 to have it fixed for her.  Our car didn't even have a dent in it.  There were a few little paint scratches near the tailgate but that was about it! I thought that it was absolutely hilarious that the ladies car had been so seriously damaged and Grandpa just had a little scratch.

When I bought my new car, a 2004 Toyota Matrix, there was a lot to get used to.  First of all this car was not for off-road! It was low to the ground, which was about the hardest part to get used to, it was low to the ground, it wasn't as sturdy, and it didn't have as much power.  My step-dad wasn't wrong when he had said "gutless"! Don't get me wrong though, I really like my new car and I'm sure I'll learn to absolutely love it sooner than later.

Once Grandpa wouldn't start up and I had to ask my friends for rides to wherever we were going.  Most of my friends knew that the name of my car was Grandpa but one of them, and I did not know this at the time, did not.  After they'd picked me up I explained why I needed a ride saying Grandpa had died. And that one friend told me how sorry she was for my loss and when everyone gave her a questioning look I finally understood and explained to her that my actual grandfather had not died but my car, named Grandpa, was currently not working.  We all had a good laugh after that.

We took Grandpa to the mechanic for something small that needed replacing and when he came back he had some serious problems! He stalled at every stop and it was scary and dangerous to drive around.  My step-dad took a look at it and, while the mechanic had been working on the one part of the car, he'd broken another piece of the car and had put it back together with duct tape.  Now I don't know where this fella went to "mechanic school" or if he just believed duct tape fixed everything but he'd caused us some troubles. We fixed it all up and Grandpa was as good as new... well as new as 200,000 miles could be.

I'll miss Grandpa and his chewed up seat-belts, as a result of our wonderful dog Bull who left us some time ago, the satisfying roar as the engine started up, the slow rolling automatic windows, the way the extra seats in the back bounced around every time I turned a corner, not being able to open the doors more than once without the ear-piercing alarm going off. Ah, I'll miss those days! I hope the new owner will find as much joy as I did in this car and treat it well! Farewell Grandpa! You will be missed!

I happily introduce my shiny new car Luna! She will be an awesome car, I know it!

Talking Tumblr

So today I wanted to talk about Tumblr! What a crazy place it is! My friend introduced me to this site about a year ago and I have never been the same since! At first I was overwhelmed by the site! What the heck is going on here! It felt like there was too much of everything everywhere. It took me awhile to figure out what was up and how to work everything but after awhile it clicked and I was on my way to nerdy bliss.

I couldn't believe all of the FANDOMS! For anyone who doesn't know what a fandom is it is a group/community of people who all love the same show/movie/book.  Take Dr. Who for example.  The Dr. Who fandom are all the people who love and talk about all things Dr. Who (this may not be a great explanation but it'll do to get the idea across).  If you have something (anything) you really love... join tumblr and blog about/follow people who blog about the thing you love. Chances are you will find things similar to whatever you love and your fandoms will grow!

One thing I love about Tumblr is that you can learn about other fandoms and what is happening in those fandoms without actually being in them!  I love this because I can chat with my friends about things they like and know what's going on even if I'm not up to date with that show/book. I also love it because when I go to cons I know what's going on and get certain "inside" joke that have to do with their fandoms. It's great to get to know what the characters are for all the shows/comic books/movies out there!

You learn some crazy/awesome facts out there too.  Some people (who may be even crazier about a fandom than you) have searched through every crack and crevasse to get every detail out of their fandom that they can. These people will spread the word through their blogs and you will get some awesome information that may have been normally hard to come by.  I know I've loved this through my tumbr journeys! I have been in love with the Hobbit since the news came out and I've loved tumblr deeply for the awesomeness it has taught me about the movie and the actors.

If you do plan on joining this site BEWARE some people don't post the most decent things! Searching through posts and bloggers can be tricky and risky. There are some scary things going on behind all that awesomeness! Language is a huge thing all over the site and is very hard to avoid. If you are younger (under 18) I would not recommend this site!  Even I (20) tread very carefully through this site!  I've roamed the internet enough to know how to be careful in my searching.

If you plan on joining, are signing up now, or have already joined, welcome to the madness! Have a wonderfully geeky stay!

The Theater

Alright! Time to talk about my job! That usually doesn't sound like too interesting of a topic but I work at a MOVIE THEATER! That may still sound boring but there is always something fun going on there.  When a popular movie comes out all of the fans emerge from their hiding! We get awesome costumes and awesome people coming to midnight screenings.  Sometimes out theater will host events for big movies coming out! I'm make a whole other post for those awesome things.

One of the largest Imax screens out there.
The staff at the theater are amazingly nice, I would have never thought I could meet so many nice people all in one place! I've worked there for two years (The theater opened two years ago, I was there since the beginning! I've got a story or two about getting the theater ready to open to the public!) and even though employees come and go there seems to be a plethora of kind people coming in! If you ever want to check out this theater it is in Centerville, Utah (www.megaplextheatres.com) <=  Here's their website with the address! Come attend one of our events sometime or come dressed up for the midnight!

Well, Hello!

Hey there and welcome to my blog! I'm very excited about starting this blog and sharing about my life and hobbies! Some things to know about me:

I'm a LDS (Latter Day Saint or some people have probably heard the term Mormon (which is not technically the correct term, kind of a "nickname" really! mormon.org ))  I'm 20 years old have two wonderful families (due to a divorce long ago) including two mothers, two fathers, 5 adorable sisters, and our little brother (yes, he has had to make it through the sparkles and fingernail polish!).

I work at a movie theater and there are always really cool things happening!

I'm an avid reader and will probably be mentioning books on this blog all the time. I want to try and set up some book reviews too.

I'm a FANGIRL! I am crazy about Sherlock, Star Trek (The newer movies!!! Unfortunately I never started/got into the old shows/movies!), The Hobbit, Harry Potter, Kingdom Hearts, and a lot more that I will happily make a list of later.

I'm an artist! I paint, draw, sculpt, craft, build, etc, etc! I love making props and costumes and I'm getting a BFA in Visual Communications. I've participated in the local chalk festival in Bountiful (Magic on the Sidewalk) for four years and have won multiple awards for my art. I've been commissioned for my art on multiple occasions and I've loved the work! The largest painting I've done was 8ft. tall by 4ft. wide! It was so fun, a really neat experience!

I love to cosplay and go to conventions.  I live in Utah and have attended the Anime Banzai for two years.  I attended and volunteered at the first ever Salt Lake Comic Con which was AMAZING! I'll have more experiences to tell on that later. I've put together cosplays for Chihiro (Spirited Away: Movie), Helga Sinclair (Atlantis: Movie), Xion (Kingdom Hearts: Video Game), Yuki Cross (Vampire Knight: Manga), and an elf from The Hobbit. I'll be sure to post pictures of each one sometime!

I hope I'll be able to share all of the adventures of my nerdy life with all of you and I hope you enjoy it! Allons-y!
